Jihad Among Us: How Many Other Plots Are There?

It's a good thing a New Jersey store clerk was suspicious. The FBI caught six Muslim men before they could do any damage, which it's clear they were capable of committing. It's clear that they were planning on it. How many more are there that we don't know about--plots that is?

There have been jihadists in our midst for years. They've infiltrated university Middle Eastern Studies departments, governments, and Islamist front organizatons, such as CAIR. It was only a matter of time before another murder plot erupted. It did last night when six Muslim men tried to purchase a plethora weapons from an FBI undercover agent.

A video store clerk, who was asked to duplicate a video that contained bragging about their intent to kill, notified authorities.

Apparently the video was rather explicit about what they intended to do.

"It doesn't matter to me whether I get locked up, arrested or get taken away," another defendant, Serdar Tatar, was alleged to have said. "Or I die, it doesn't matter. I'm doing it in the name of Allah."

Hopefully the reality is hitting both PBS, who refuses to air a documentary that distinguishes the majority of peaceable Muslims from the bloodthirsty ones such as the New Jersey 6, and liberals and others who think that it can't happen here.

Interestingly, no ties have been found between the 6 men and al Qaeda. In an era of internet technology, says Michael Scheuer, author of Imperial Hubris, this is exactly as al Qaeda would have it. Fomenting of rage among Muslim men everywhere, who then easily find their ideas and instructions on various web sites and then attempt to unilaterally commit mayhem in the name of Allah.

We need to be vigilant. We should also let and encourage the majority of Muslims, who abhor jihad, to be vigilant as well.

The FBI has known about these guys for a year, and only recently did they try to trade in their paintball guns for real ones? Their so-called plot to attack Fort Dix is laughable.

But we're supposed to live in fear of these idiots, according to the Bush administration.

I'm sure that after the primary hearings are over, we will know the trueth. Rather they were playing games or whatever... The facts so far support their intentions. Could they have attacked FT. Dix? While in Iraq, we were targeted almost daily by mortars, rockets, and snipers. Soldiers were killed even though we had superior security measurse than those found here at military bases. I find it more than plausible. So laugh all you want, until the next time that someone has to give up his life to prove these extremists are a threat! But again the fault lays with Bush, come on!

Richard,

I agree with Dan. (You're doing exactly what liberals do all the time, by the way--what I have accused you, et al on OneUtah of doing--calling the kettle black but seeing the pot only as shiny gold. You need to seriously look at both sides of the issue.)

Considering Jihadists willingness to die or be incarcerated for Allah (you recommended "Imperial Hubris" to me, which I am nearly done with--did you read all of it?) it doesn't matter whether their Fort Dix plans were sophisticated or not. There are people out there who can wreak a lot of havoc out there in a matter of seconds. Course that would never happen, would it--unless you count the beltway sniper...

Dan is correct. The truth will come out as to what their plans were. I would like to see the video.

Two of the "plotters" were FBI plants. It will be interesting to see how much of this alleged terrorist cell is real.

As far as their alleged plan to attack Fort Dix, it's just nuts. I could invent a half dozen better terrorist plots.

If there are serious terrorists planning to attack America (a reasonable assumption), we won't know about it until it's too late.

Just a comment on that part. The America at a Crossroads series on PBS had two other segments on the subject, one by Irshad Manji on her attempts push Islam in a peacable direction and another one on Islam in Indonesia. If those don't satisfy you, which of the films that were included would you take out in order to include that one.

It is worth trying to get it on in the future and getting it on the website. But does not need the type of condemnation you lay on the editorial decision.

Josh Marshall points to the issue of concern here:

"I certainly hope the FBI and CIA have their ears and eyes on the look out for the next terror plotters. But the real jokers they actually bust turn out to be such hopeless goofs that it's hard to know whether to feel reassured that if Islamic terrorism is catching on in the US that it's only doing so among the deeply stupid or that these are the only ones our guys can catch."
